A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JASMINE MICHELLE MARTIN OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HER ACADEMIC AND CIVIC ACHIEVEMENTS.

WHEREAS, Jasmine Michelle Martin of Jackson, Mississippi, is the beautiful and talented daughter of Julius Martin, Jr., and Jacqueline Bowman Martin, the niece of Senator Barbara Martin Blackmon and Representative Edward Blackmon, Jr., and the cousin of Senator Willie Simmons; and

WHEREAS, Jasmine is a junior at Callaway High School who has spent the past two summers working for the City of Jackson; and

WHEREAS, her impressive academic and civic achievements include the following: Chastain Spelling Bee Semi-Finalist (1994); National Junior Honor Society (1995); Vice-President of Junior Optimist Club (1994-1996); President of Chastain Singers (1994-1996); All City Choir (1996); Mississippi State Senate Page in 1995 and 1997; High Honor Roll Student, Future Business Leaders of America (1997-1998); Junior ROTC Leadership Award (1997-1998); Junior ROTC Academic Achievement Award, Gayfer Girl (1998); Miss Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Debutante in 1998-1999, wherein she received her crown from her first cousin Chenise Danielle Lyles; City of Jackson, Human and Cultural Services, Family and Youth Division, Volunteer (1996-Present); and United Way Youth Volunteer (Summer 1998); and

WHEREAS, Jasmine represents the spirit and character which exemplifies the very best and brightest in Mississippi's youth, and she has brought honor on her city, school and state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jasmine Michelle Martin of Jackson, Mississippi, for her considerable academic and civic achievements, and extend to her the best wishes of the Legislature on her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Jasmine Martin and her family and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
